Human hair lace front wigs can be washed, conditioned, curled and straightened the same way human hair can but there are a few important differences in care that should be taken into account before care and maintenance is begun.
For example, the way you will care for your lace front wig will vary greatly depending upon the wig’s texture and curl pattern. They also need to be washed in a particular way and handled carefully to keep them looking fabulous.
Follow the steps below to keep your lace front wig looking fabulous every day and complete the regimen monthly or weekly to keep your unit looking great into the future.
Here are some things you can do to prepare your lace front wig before you wear it for the day:
Brush it thoroughly with a paddle brush to keep straight textures sleek and to define curly and wavy textures.
Apply products that will protect and enhance the appearance of your lace front wig. You may want to use mousse to give your curls or waves greater hold or a straightening product to straight textures to help shorten the styling process before any heat is applied to your unit.
Style your hair any way you choose. Use heat styling tools to make it straight of add curls. Braid it, put in a pony tail or let it fall across your shoulders. Your styling options are endless.
Night time care
Remove your lace front wig before going to sleep to keep it healthy, shiny and smooth. Put your wig on a wig stand, in a box or back in its original packaging to keep it protected.
Weekly or monthly care regimen
Complete the following regimen weekly or monthly, depending on how often you wear your lace front wig, to keep it healthy and beautiful:
Run your fingers through the length of your lace front wig to search for knots or tangles that may have formed while it was being worn. Although detangling can be done with a comb or brush, finger detangling is often preferred because it eliminates the damage that can be done to the wig when a comb or brush is forced through tangled hair. Sometimes, knots and tangles can get caught in the brush or comb making the problem even worse. Using your fingers to find and pull apart knots that may have formed is easier on the wig and may prevent strands of hair from being pulled out.
Fill a sink, large bowl or container with water that is cool to the touch. Pour in a few drops of shampoo. Submerge your lace front wig in the soapy water and rub it softly to loosen any dirt or grime that has built up with daily use. Follow the directions listed on your shampoo to achieve best results. Rinse your lace front wig in cool water. Give your wig a gentle squeeze to remove excess water and pat it dry with a towel until water no longer drips from the wig.
For a deep cleaning use a clarifying shampoo to strip away dirt or, if your wig is frizzy and dry or stiff wash with a moisturizing shampoo.
Apply a generous amount of conditioner to the entire length of your lace front wig. Let it sit for between 5 and 30 minutes then rinse with cool water and towel dry.
Use a hair dryer or place your lace front wig on a wig stand to allow it to air dry. Allow extra time to give the base of the wig time to dry thoroughly. Make sure your lace front wig is completely dry before it is worn.
